Traders at Anyaa Yam Market lament decline in patronage on market days

Traders and yam sellers at the Anyaa Yam Market have described prosperous market days as a thing of the past.

Located in the Anyaa Sowutoum Constituency, the market has seen many traders struggle as most of their yams rot due to low patronage.

Several yam sellers, during an engagement with happyghana.com on Thursday, September 26, 2024, expressed their frustration with the government’s failure to address their concerns, which have been raised and broadcast for years. “This is not what we were promised; today is a market day, but no one has even come to buy a single tuber of yam from me. It can be like this for a whole week. How do I survive?” one seller lamented.

Another trader shared that the worsening economic conditions have significantly reduced customer turnout. “Everything is difficult now. No one has it easy. Even our customers can no longer afford to buy yams because times are tough,” she explained.

As a result, many traders find themselves without enough income to sustain themselves or restock their goods.

This is the plight of many business owners in the area, as they contend with major challenges such as inflation and rising transportation costs.
