The acting Central Regional head of the National Road Safety Authority, Mr. Victor Kojo Birson has revealed that the availability of ambulances would have helped save lives in the fatal crash on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway Tuesday dawn.

According to Kojo Birson, the other five who died later on could have been saved if they were transported to the hospital on time.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show, Kojo Birson said, “The response time by the Police and Fire Service was impressive, I believe the other five who died, later on could’ve been saved if they were transported to the hospital on time. Ambulances at the central regional office helped a lot, some people also helped with their cars, but if there were enough ambulances we would have gone on a single trip. The 5 who died, later on, could’ve been saved.”

The gory accident, which occurred on Tuesday, January 13 involved two buses, one said to be traveling from Takoradi to Accra – with registration number GR 5704-18 – and the other – with registration number GN 3780-10 – in the opposite direction.

He, however, advised passengers on a commercial bus. “Don’t entrust your life entirely into the hands of a driver. If she/he is driving recklessly, tell her/him to be careful.”

On Tuesday night, President Akufo-Addo consoled families of those involved in the fatal crash.
