Turkey’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that a Turkish military cargo plane crashed on Tuesday near the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry said the C-130 aircraft had departed from Azerbaijan and was en route to Turkey when the incident occurred.
Authorities have not yet disclosed how many crew members were on board. A joint search and rescue operation is currently underway, coordinated with Azerbaijani and Georgian officials.
The C-130 aircraft, a mainstay of Turkey’s armed forces, is widely used for transporting troops and conducting logistical missions.
Turkey and Azerbaijan share strong military ties, frequently collaborating on training and defense operations.
Video footage broadcast by Turkey’s private network NTV and other outlets reportedly shows the plane spiraling down and trailing white smoke before impact.
