The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has introduced a new tax policy, known as the Value Income Tax (VIT), set to impact ride-hailing vehicle owners affiliated with companies such as Uber, Yango, and Bolt.

According to the GRA, the VIT will be effective from January 1, 2024, in compliance with Section 22 of Regulations 2016, LI 2244.

In an official notice, the GRA urged ride-hailing companies operating in Ghana to update their digital platforms to integrate the newly introduced tax requirements.

The guidelines include the necessity for a softcopy of the VIT sticker, the validation of sticker authenticity with the GRA, and the quarterly submission of a comprehensive list of all vehicles on their platforms to the GRA.

The GRA emphasized that these requirements will be strictly enforced beginning January 1, 2024. Additionally, ride-hailing vehicle owners have been instructed to register their vehicles at any GRA office, facilitating payment for VIT using the shortcode *222#.
