Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Dr. Darius Osei has opened up on how he handled work through COVID-19 even after some of his workers contracted the virus.

Speaking on Season 2 of the Y-Leaderboard Series segment of YFM’s Myd-Morning Radio Show with Rev Erskine and DJ Ganj, he confessed that personally, he was not in support of the whole panic that was being created from announcing the case counts and closing down of facilities, hence he did not put out any information about some of his workers testing positive.

“I told my people that if we close down, it means we have failed the public so we had to manage those who got sick and review our strategies anytime we have any of these events so we never announced ourselves to the public. We took it up and managed our people, assured them and gave them all the support that was required and luckily for us, everyone is okay now”, he said.

When asked by Rev. Erskine if he was in fear of the stigmatization that would be attached to the institution, the CEO confessed that he was not.

Dr. Darius said, “In the beginning, the stigmatization was a problem and that was why we were getting a lot of mortalities. People were running away from it because they didn’t want to announce their status and they came in very sick but now, I think gradually the results are getting better because people have come to accept the condition that it is one of the things we have to live with.
