United Kingdom Prime Minister Starmer unveils peace plan for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in the United Kingdom following a crucial meeting in the United States, as global efforts to support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia intensify.

The Ukrainian President as part of his visit, has made his way to Sandringham Estate, in meeting with King Charles. His trip comes as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosts a summit with European leaders in London, where he outlined a four-step plan aimed at ensuring peace and strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

Starmer emphasized that while “Europe must do the heavy lifting” in supporting Ukraine, backing from the United States remains critical. He announced that the UK, along with France and other allies, has committed to working closely with Ukraine to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

As part of its continued support, the UK government will enable Ukraine to access £1.6 billion in UK export finance, which will facilitate the purchase of more than five thousand air defence missiles. This move underscores Britain’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defence against Russian aggression.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also weighed in on the discussions, stating that “it’s important we prepare for the worst.” Her remarks highlight the urgency with which European leaders are addressing the situation, as concerns grow over the prolonged nature of the war and its potential escalations.

With diplomatic engagements intensifying on both sides of the Atlantic, Ukraine’s leadership continues to rally international support as the war enters another challenging phase.
