The Ministry of Finance, State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), and the Institute of Directors Ghana (IoD), with Professor Douglas Boateng as Convenor, have announced their readiness to host the inaugural Boardroom Governance Summit on October 8, 2024, at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra.

The boardroom-focused summit, expected to attract over 700 c-suite executives both in person and online, aims to promote robust boardroom effectiveness and sustainable development in Ghana and beyond. As businesses and organizations face increasing pressure to adopt sustainable best practices, this event will offer a platform for thought leaders to share insights and strategies that link governance excellence with industrial competitiveness and long-term socio-economic development.

Industry experts scheduled to speak include the Acting Director General for SIGA, the President of the Institute of Directors- Ghana, Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, the President of the Ghana Bar Association, the Managing Director of Asante Gold Corporation, and the Dean of the UPSA Law School, amongst others. These uniquely curated panel sessions will provide a window into the realm of sustained socio-economic development, with accountability at the core.

Expressing enthusiasm ahead of the summit, Professor Douglas Boateng, Convenor, stated, “I’m incredibly optimistic about the transformative potential of this summit. As we explore the intricate connections between director accountability, governance, and sustainable development, I envision a future where our collective efforts lead to stronger, more resilient organizations and nations.”

He added, “Effective boardroom governance practices and accountability are essential for building resilient and sustainable organizations and economies. By bringing together experts and industry leaders, we aim to facilitate meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange that will empower participants to contribute significantly to sustained development.”

With its compelling theme, “Boardroom Governance, Accountability, and Long-term Sustainable Development: The Inextricable Links,” the maiden edition of the Boardroom Governance Summit is set to become a cornerstone in the evolution of corporate governance in Ghana and beyond. It is anticipated to grow into a benchmark for corporate organizations leading the charge for good boardroom governance and accountability.
