The University Teacher Association Ghana is threatening strike action if the government does not pay their book and research allowance.
Speaking in an interview the National President for UTAG, Prof Solomon Nunoo stated that the government must act fast on their demand in order not to disrupt the academic year which has already been distorted.
“When it comes to books and research allowance, historically this is money paid to all lecturers during the academic year. The academic year under consideration is 2021 to 20 22 which has already come to an end.
“Academic year normally starts from 1st August of the year and ends on the 31st July. We are currently in September and today is the 29th of September and unfortunately, not a single campus has been paid their book and research allowance,” Prof. Nunoo stated.
He added that the strike action is not limited to the UTAG but includes all the four labour unions within the public Universities in the country.
The President also stated that there have been meetings with the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders that must yield the needed result or else they have no option but to lay down their tools.
