Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang today honoured the eight Ghanaians who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash.
At the forecourt of the State House, the Vice President stood before the caskets and delivered an emotional tribute. She painted a vivid picture of what should have been days of work, planning, and progress toward the national agenda but instead, the nation gathered in grief.
She recalled how the victims served Ghana with focus and resolve, always ready to report on progress, share challenges, and adjust strategies.
In a deeply personal moment, she addressed the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah. She remembered their last Ghana Armed Forces Council meeting, where they pledged to clear agenda items quickly and work closely for the good of the country. Tragedy, she said, cut those plans short.
Quoting the words, “man proposes, God disposes,” the Vice President thanked the fallen for their selflessness, loyalty, justice, and hard work. She urged Ghanaians to draw strength from their legacy and channel it into building a better Ghana.
“As we reset our country,” she declared, “you are always with us. Rest in peace.”
Her tribute formed part of the three-day national mourning period, marking not just the loss of public servants, but colleagues, mentors, and friends whose absence will be felt for years.
