Vodafone praised for supporting pregnant women

Vodafone has received commendation for its free ultrasound scans for pregnant women in the Eastern region.
The platform, in partnership with Divine Mother and Child (D-MAC) Foundation, has become integral in reducing maternal and child mortality for hundreds of residents in underprivileged communities in Ayensuano, Akyemansa, Suhum, Akwapim South and other areas.
Commenting on the initiative, Coordinator for the Eastern Regional Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) Augustina Nartey, praised the Vodafone Foundation for making pregnancy scans easily accessible in the region. She said women in rural areas across Ghana often die due to the inaccessibility of ultrasound screenings in their communities.
“Using the ultra sound facility has helped women track the progress and delivery dates of their babies in a rapid way and I want to thank Vodafone and Divine Mother for doing such a fantastic job.
There have even been instances where some of the women were found with fibroid complications and were immediately given medical attention to save their lives.”
Ebenezer Amankwah, Corporate Relations Manager at Vodafone Ghana said:
“We are making this contribution to ease the burden of pregnant women who are denied such opportunities in their communities. Our mothers deserve better and we are proud to be at the forefront of this together with Divine Mother.”
The free mobile ultrasound scan, is part of plans by the Vodafone Ghana Foundation to support Government in achieving the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of reducing the maternal mortality rate in the country.
