WAEC reveals punishment for students caught cheating in WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cautioned final-year Senior High School students sitting for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) that anyone caught cheating risks having their entire results cancelled.

In a statement, WAEC said all necessary security measures had been put in place to safeguard the integrity of the international examination.

“The Council will not hesitate to nullify the entries of such candidates, and those who manage to sneak in will have their entire results cancelled if found out,” it warned.

Heads of schools, supervisors, and invigilators were also reminded to desist from engaging in examination malpractice or face sanctions in line with WAEC regulations.

The Council’s warning follows a call by Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, for teachers and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service to uphold honesty and accountability during the 2025 WASSCE.

Speaking on behalf of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Dr. Apaak said the credibility of both the WASSCE and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) must be preserved.

“The integrity of our examinations is non-negotiable, and all staff are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability,” he stated.
