The West African Examinations Council(WAEC) has threatened to delay issuing the 2024 WASSCE results if government refuses to settle some 18 million cedis arrears.

The ranking member on the education committee Peter Nortsu Kotoe presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament stated that, there is a serious financial challenge facing WAEC which will affect the 2024 WASSCE results.

Peter Nortsu Kotoe made reference to a statement dated 19 Dec 2024, where WAEC indicated that the Ministry of Education owes the Council 18 million cedis.

He stated that the effect of the delay in payment is affecting the mandate of WAEC in several ways including their inability to pay examiners on time.

He added that examiners have threatened to hold on to the scripts if government refuses to pay them.

He said the Ministry of Education should ensure that the right thing is done in order not to deny successful candidates the opportunity to gain l admission in the universities early next year.
