We can’t fulfill ‘Year of Roads’ promise  because of Coronavirus – Roads Minister

The Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Atiwa West, Honourable Kwesi Amoako Atta has dropped hints that Government may not be able to continue or complete roads under the Sinohydro agreement.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Minister explained that as a result of the Corona Virus outbreak in China, it has affected the release or flow of money from China to Ghana.

The parliament of Ghana recently approved a 2billion dollar agreement, for roads and related infrastructure, with China in exchange for Ghana’s rich bauxite in what has come to be known as the Synohydro agreement.

Upon this basis, the finance minister, Hon Ken Ofori Atta, in his 2020 budget declared 2020 as a year of roads. This joyous declaration seems to be hopeless as a result of the expose from the Roads and Highways minister.
