Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Randy Abbey has shutdown claims that the GFA needs to wait for the technical report from Chris Hughton on the 2023 AFCON before appointing a new coach.

The GFA set up a committee led by Vice president Mark Addo to search for a new Black Stars coach barely 24 hours after announcing the dismissal of Chris Hughton who led Ghana to the 2023 AFCON.

The decision was not well received by the media and other stakeholders who stated that the GFA should wait for the report from Chris Hughton to ascertain what went wrong in Ivory Coast before initiating the steps to appoint a new coach.

Reacting to this on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Dr. Randy Abbey said there was nothing hasty about the decision to fire Chris Hughton and the GFA doesn’t need a technical report to appoint a new coach.

You don’t need a technical report to appoint a new coach. There was nothing hasty about the sacking of coach Chris Hughton. As part of his contract, there was an AFCON requirement, so if we go and you don’t deliver, you need to be sacked.”

“Even if the decision was hasty, what would it have changed? Basically nothing”.
