Alliance Drivers of Ghana, representing the interests of drivers and transport operators across the country, today expressed strong opposition to the approved 1 Cedi Energy Sector Levy on fuel.
According to Kwaku Boateng, national public relations officer, this additional tax burden will have far-reaching and devastating consequences on the transport sector, commuters, and the broader economy.
“Unfortunately, this burden will be passed on to commuters in the form of higher transport fares”. – he added.
In light of this, he said transport operators are left with no choice but to announce a 20% increase in transport fares if the government proceeds with the implementation of this levy.
Mr. Kwaku Boateng urged the government to reconsider this proposal and explore alternative measures to address the challenges facing the energy sector.
He called on all stakeholders, including policymakers, industry players, and the general public, to join them in opposing this “ill-conceived” proposal.
