The New Patriotic Party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh affectionately known as NAPO has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves while promoting responsible mining practices.

Speaking on an Accra-based radio station monitored by Happyghana.com on Wednesday, October 16, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that mining contributes significantly to Ghana’s economy and will continue with strict regulations. He clarified that mining activities will not occur in sensitive areas, such as water bodies or forest reserves, addressing concerns over illegal mining’s devastating impact on the country’s natural resources.

The government seeks to balance economic benefits with environmental protection, ensuring sustainable mining practices. NAPO’s comment responds to ongoing concerns about galamsey, which has severely harmed Ghana’s environment.

This stance aligns with President Akufo-Addo’s previous assurances, emphasizing “clean mining” and responsible practices to safeguard Ghana’s environment for future generations.
