The Municipal Chief Executive for Weija Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, has appealed to the President and Parliament to provide legislative backing for the National Sanitation Day.
He believes this will ensure strict adherence to the initiative, which aims to tackle Ghana’s growing sanitation challenges.
Speaking at a clean-up exercise at McCarthy Junction and Weija, Mr Lamptey commended the President for introducing the initiative and urged citizens to view sanitation as a collective responsibility.
The MCE also pledged to enforce the assembly’s by-laws to promote clean environments across the municipality.
Some Assembly members who joined the clean-up exercise expressed disappointment over the low turnout calling on residents to make sanitation a civic duty. They lamented the lack of law enforcement and urged residents to adhere to sanitation regulations.
