The Executive Director of Jatikay Centre, Adib Saani has questioned the Electoral Commission over its failure to provide accreditation to some members of the
Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to monitor the December 7th elections.

“What is the EC hiding. Why doesn’t the EC want observers, this raises soo much concern. It is the responsibility of the EC to ensure credibility, fairness and transparency”.

According to him, the EC failed to provide reasons for not being able to provide the accreditation.

“It is surprising, that the commission is unable to provide reasons for not being able to provide the accreditation.”

He mentioned that, CSOs have been part of the Electoral processes for a long time and he is surprised by the twist this year.

“It is a normal practice that CSOs would be part of the process, unfortunately the EC wrote to some CSOs indicating that they cannot be given accreditation without explanations”.

He has however urged the Electoral Commission to rescind its decision and provide accreditation for free, transparent and credible elections.

The affected organizations are the Centre for Conflict Resolution- Ghana (CENCOR), the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building ( JATIKAY CENTRE), the Human Security Research Center Ghana (HSRCGh) and the FESF Foundation.
