The mystery surrounding the death of Dr. John Kumah, Member of Parliament for Ejisu, has been clarified by his grieving wife.

Contrary to speculations of poisoning, Mrs. Lilian Kumah, has revealed that her husband succumbed to a terminal illness he had been battling for nearly a year.

Dr. Kumah, she disclosed, had been diagnosed with a rare blood-related disease known as “Myeloma” back in August 2023. Despite undergoing treatment and seeking medical attention abroad, his condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to his passing on Friday, March 6.

What is Myeloma?

Myeloma, also referred to as multiple myeloma, is a type of cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. Plasma cells are vital for the immune system as they produce antibodies to help fight infection. However, in myeloma, these cells become abnormal and multiply uncontrollably, crowding out healthy blood cells.

As the cancerous cells accumulate, they can cause a range of symptoms including bone pain, weakness, anemia, and susceptibility to infections. Myeloma can also lead to complications such as kidney damage and bone fractures.

Experts have emphasized the challenges of diagnosing and treating myeloma, particularly in its advanced stages. It is said that Myeloma often presents with vague symptoms, making it difficult to detect until it has progressed significantly.

Treatment options vary depending on the stage of the disease, but early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for better outcomes.
