Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticized his counterpart in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for holding a media encounter on Sunday, August 25, 2024, just a day after the NDC launched their manifesto.

Speaking to the people of Kasseh during his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Mr. Mahama claimed that the timing of Dr. Bawumia’s media event was intended to divert public attention away from the NDC’s manifesto.

Mr. Mahama suggested that Dr. Bawumia’s intentions backfired, as evidenced by the “sudden stammering posture” the Vice President allegedly adopted during the encounter.

He pointed out that the NDC had announced their manifesto launch for August 24th, only for their opponents to schedule a media encounter for the very next day.

He further criticized Dr. Bawumia, saying, “You know how to tell when somebody is lying. If they’re people who are smooth talkers, who speak ratatatata like machine gun, the time when they become stammerers and they start stammering you know they are lying.

Sombody who can speak ‘tatatatata’ like AK-47 suddenly media encounter “eeeerm eeeeerm”, he said.

Mr. Mahama accused the current administration of regressing the nation by a decade over the past eight years.

He noted that as a nation we can’t pay our debts, we can’t afford basic commodities that were once within reach because prices have skyrocketed, and we’re now pleading with the world to forgive our debts.
He added that bondholders are facing haircuts, and the cedi depreciates daily, noting the significant drop in the cedi’s value, which had recently surpassed GH16.00 to 1 US dollar.

He urged people to act with truthful intentions, emphasizing that to be a good leader, one must be honest and transparent with the people. He assured that the NDC would always speak the truth.
