Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako has disclosed that the moment one mentions the name of the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo some section of Ghanaians attribute it to kidnapping.

His assertion comes on the heels of recent spate of kidnapping of foreigners in the country.

According to Antwi Boasiako who is also known as Chairman Wontumi, Ofosu Ampofo was caught in an audio conspiring with some NDC communicators to create state of unrest by kidnapping.

In the past three months, the Ashanti region has recorded three of such incidents. The first involving an Indian who was kidnapped at Ahojwo in Kumasi and the latest, two Canadian ladies who were kidnapped around the Royal Gulf Park in Kumasi.

The Indian managed to fight his way out of captivity while the two Canadians who were volunteers for a Nongovernmental Organisation Youth Challenge International, are yet to be found.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show Chairman Wontumi sad “By God’s grace everything that he Ofosu Ampofo and his cronies planned has leaked and Ghanaians know what they are up to. Nowadays, when you mention Ofosu Ampofo’s name they say kidnapper. He is responsible for the recent kidnappings in the country. He must be jailed for that.”

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service last month invited Mr Ofosu Ampofo again for questioning in connection with kidnappings and market fires.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo, however, declined to honour the invitation.

In a letter dated May 9, Mr Ofosu Ampofo through his lawyers called the bluff of the CID and this compelled the police to secure a warrant for his arrest.
