Ghana Football Association (GFA) Technical Inspector and retired Ghanaian referee, Seidu Bomison, has revealed how a shooting incident during a match he officiated in Bawku almost triggered him to quit officiating.

According to him, officiating back in the day was intimidating as compared to now and he had regrets after officiating his first match.

Sharing his experience on the first official match he officiated on Happy FM’s Where Are They program, Seidu Bomison said,

“The first match I officiated made me regret I chose the profession. it was a match in Bawku between Mandela Stars versus Bawku United and after officiating that match, I told my wife who was then a Police officer that after what I had experienced in that match, I wasn’t going to continue refereeing”.

“It wasn’t an easy experience, in that match, I was assisting the center referee alongside another colleague of mine. The whole incident happened when the center referee issued a yellow card to a Bawku United player and from nowhere one of their people beside me shot a gun telling the referee he is warned” he continued.

“I was so frightened and sacred to try and move because he was right beside me, the intimidation back in the day was so frightening” he added.
