“Why not support women’s football? It’s Loved by Ghanaians!” – Malta Guinness champions the growth of the Women’s Game

Malta Guinness Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s football with a simple but compelling question: “Why not support women’s football? It’s loved by Ghanaians!”

That quote, from Dinah Asabea Darko, Marketing Manager of Malta Guinness Ghana, was echoed both on and off the pitch over the weekend, as two unforgettable finals showcased the rise of the women’s game in Ghana—thanks in large part to the brand’s sustained sponsorship and vision.

“As a brand that has been supported by Ghanaians all these years, we saw it wise to support women’s football, which also needs a helping hand. Football is loved by Ghanaians, so why not? That is our motivation behind supporting the women’s league,” Dinah Asabeah Darko said.

At the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Police Ladies FC delivered a performance worthy of champions, stunning defending title-holders Ampem Darkoa Ladies 2-0 to clinch their first-ever Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League crown.

Jane Ayieyam set the tone with a composed finish in the 27th minute after a flowing team move. Ampem Darkoa, eyeing a historic third consecutive title, pushed for an equalizer but were consistently denied by a resolute Police Ladies defense, anchored by standout goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.

Then came the moment of glory. In the 89th minute, substitute Victoria Teye Williams pounced on a loose ball and found the net, sealing the win and writing a new chapter in Ghanaian women’s football.

Police Ladies’ triumph was more than a football story—it was the outcome of belief, support, and investment. Malta Guinness, as title sponsor, has provided more than funding; it has delivered visibility, infrastructure, and confidence to clubs that are now dreaming bigger and reaching higher.

In another gripping final, Faith Ladies completed a remarkable season by edging Jonina Ladies 2-1 in extra time to lift the Women’s FA Cup.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Jonina’s Joyce Atimbila opened the scoring in the 97th minute, only for Faith Ladies’ Erica Obeng Apreku to equalize moments later. Apreku then struck again in the 112th minute, sealing a memorable victory and underlining the depth of talent now emerging in the women’s game.

Malta Guinness’ involvement has gone beyond mere sponsorship. By aligning with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the brand has elevated the Women’s Premier League into a platform for national pride and social impact.

From prize money and equipment support to training workshops and media coverage, Malta Guinness is fueling a movement that empowers women, energizes communities, and inspires future generations.
