#WorldRadioDay: Happy98.9FM’s immense contribution to Ghana sports

Radio and Sports intertwine and over the years, it has helped change the face of the game especially after the recent scandal which rocked the country after the Anas exposé on corruption in Ghana Football.

The documentary after its premiere led to the government halting all football activities in the country and also ex-Ghana Football association president Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned from his post.

The previous administration received a lot of criticisms and backlash from the public which was mostly on radio.
According to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the constant calls and talks about corruption of the Nyantakyi administration mostly on radio was what led to him conducting the investigative piece.

The investigation has brought a lot of sanity in to the system with Ghana Football on the road to its past glory.
In Ghana, Sports content dominate on a lot of radio channels, which goes to confirm the power of radio in informing the public on activities of the game.

Happy FM stands out as Ghana’s number one Sports Station which is supported with many awards.

In the first presidential debate organized by Happy FM, the masses were informed about the ambitions, aspirations, goals and targets of the seven candidates interested in occupying the Ghana Football Association presidential seat.

Six out of the seven candidates shared their manifesto with the public on Happy FM’s platform.

The national debate which was aired live on radio reached millions of Ghanaians as well as influenced candidates who voted in the election.

Kurt Okraku who emerged winner with his #Gamechanger slogan was able to convince the public and voters through the debate which reached a lot of Ghanaians who listened on radio.

It was not surprising he won the election and currently his campaign to #BringBackTheLove is been championed on radio which is generating results as fans continue to embrace the game which they once fell out of love with.

Happy Sports during its Star Ghana accountability drive on corruption in Football which was aimed at fighting and tackling corruption in the game.

The program helped to unravel deep rooted corruption in the game as well as educate the fans on the laws and rules governing the game.

Happy FM in partnership with Star Ghana was able to achieve its aim through the use of Radio.

Millions of Ghanaians get informed by radio everyday thus industry players in the area of Sports thread cautiously on passing information to the public.

Sports cannot do without Radio and Vice Versa.
