Legal expert questions legality of EC’s vote recount and re-declaration

The Electoral Commission has announced that Yasarko press will no longer print Presidential and Parliamentary ballot papers for Oti and Western North Region in the upcoming 2024 general election.

According to the commission, management of Yasarko press notified the commission that one of their equipment for printing ballot papers had developed a fault to which both institutions have agreed that Yasarko should opt out of the printing of the 2024 ballots papers.

In a press statement dated October 27, 2024, Buck Press has been assigned to print the Oti and Western North Region ballot papers and acts commercials respectively.

“It is important to note that Yasarko Press has been printing ballot papers for the electoral commission since 1998 so the speculation by NDC’s Director of Elections and Information Technology that the commission engaged engaged a printing house with questionable capacity is not true, the statement added.

The statement signed by Deputy chairman and operations for Electoral Commission, Samuel Tettey further indicated that all political parties and independent candidates contesting in the 2024 general elections has been informed of the chance and the change will not compromise the calendar for the printing of the ballot papers.
