It was all excitement and camaraderie at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday as the National Youth Authority (NYA) hosted an Inter-Agency Football Gala as part of this year’s National Youth Month celebrations.
The gala assembled staff and representatives from various state agencies for a day dedicated to sports, unity and healthy competition.
The event was not just about football. Participants also battled for honours in several fun games including table tennis, sack race, lime and spoon race, ludo, cards, oware and scrabble.
The highlight, however, was the football competition. In a thrilling final, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) defeated hosts, the National Youth Authority (NYA), 4-2 on penalties to emerge champions after a keenly contested game.

Speaking to the media, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Inusah Mahama, explained the rationale behind the games.
According to him, organizing National Youth Month is a core responsibility of the Authority and the inter-agency gala is one of many activities lined up for the celebration.
“We had the National Youth Celebration at KNUST in Kumasi. Today we have organized the inter-agency games. On Tuesday, we will hold the Youth Parliament, and on Thursday, the Intergenerational Dialogue. We will climax everything at the Independence Square with the National Youth Celebration,” Mr. Mahama stated.
The gala is part of the NYA’s broader agenda to foster youth engagement, promote unity among agencies and encourage active and healthy lifestyles among the youth.
