The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Abdulai Ayariga, has urged Ghanaian youth to stay away from drug abuse, warning that it is gradually destroying their future.

Speaking at the YFM Area Code Jams held at the Legon City Mall on Saturday, October 25, as part of his #RedMeansStop campaign, Mr. Ayariga stressed that drug use has no positive impact on health or productivity.

He dismissed the notion that drugs enhance one’s ability to study or work harder, describing such claims as false and misleading.

Mr. Ayariga expressed concern that many young Ghanaians with the potential to become future ministers, Members of Parliament, and even presidents are allowing drug use to ruin their lives.

He noted that under President John Dramani Mahama’s Resetting Agenda, government plans to invest heavily in developmental projects, but widespread drug abuse among the youth could divert resources toward rehabilitation centres instead.

He appealed to young people to avoid drugs and lead responsible, purposeful lives for their own benefit and the nation’s progress.
