You came with Kalypo and we will be sacking you with brown water - Senyo Hosi to Akufo-Addo

Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi is urging President Nana Akufo-Addo to prioritize a positive legacy, specifically in combating galamsey, Ghana’s devastating illegal mining issue. Senyo Hosi expressed disappointment in the president’s handling of the environmental crisis, questioning Akufo-Addo’s commitment to preserving the environment, referencing the iconic “Kalypo” moment from his 2016 campaign.

Hosi’s call to action emphasizes the need for collective efforts in fighting galamsey, especially after organized labour’s decision to call off their planned industrial action. This comes as President Akufo-Addo has already initiated efforts to address the issue, including a bi-partisan Consultative Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining, where he stressed the importance of responsible and sustainable mining practices.

“I don’t think Nana Addo wants this to be his legacy, he should get this very clear. Nana, you came with Kalypo when you were coming, you were drinking Kalypo, and we were voting for you. We will be sacking you with brown water because that is the future you want for my children. It is wickedness,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo has pledged to strictly implement recommendations from the Consultative Dialogue and deal decisively with those involved in galamsey, regardless of political affiliation. However, Hosi’s concerns highlight the need for sustained action and collaboration to effectively address the environmental crisis.
