Former President John Mahama has thrown a subtle jab at vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, indicating the reality of the lives of the people will expose the “lies and propaganda” he has been doing with the country’s economy.

Playing around Dr Bawumia’s infamous assertion that “if the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you,” Mr Mahama argued that no matter how Bawumia does propaganda with the economy, he will be exposed by the lives of Ghanaians as is the case now.

“…You can do all the lies and propaganda with the economy you like, the reality of the people’s lives will expose you,” he posited at an economic lecture organised by the NDC Wednesday to state the ‘true state’ of the country’s economy.

Mahama, who is seeking a comeback as president of Ghana said, while public relations as taught in school is an instrument for either maintaining or improving the image of a person or an organisation, one should not take advantage of that to do propaganda.

In doing PR, he said, “you try to present your institution or the person that you are trying to promote in the best possible light and so you might sometimes be selective with your figures, present your best things and then put the negative things to the background”

However, he said lecturers have always told students to “beware of your reality and keep your public relations and your communications as close to your realities as possible”.
