Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the alleged takeover of Accra’s CMB Abuja Market land by private developers.
Her appeal comes in the wake of protests by traders and transport operators on Tuesday, who allege that land belonging to the Ghana Railway Development Authority has been encroached upon, leading to the displacement of vendors and worsening traffic congestion in the area.
“I unequivocally condemn what is happening in this enclave. This land is state land and should not be taken over by private individuals, especially when we are not sure who is giving the permission,” Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings stated.
She further urged the Minister of Transport to provide clarity on the land’s ownership and outline government’s plans for the site. According to her, the dispute poses a serious threat to livelihoods within the informal sector.
“This is causing a huge uproar in terms of people’s stability,” she cautioned.
