The Ghana Police Service has announced the successful dismantling of a notorious armed robbery syndicate that has terrorized parts of the country in recent months.
Speaking at a press conference at the Election Command Centre of the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), revealed that the syndicate, made up of about 15 members, was behind a string of violent robberies targeting rural and commercial banks in the Ashanti, Ahafo, Western and Central regions.
“Through the able leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the relentless efforts of our officers, we have arrested 10 members of this gang, while three others were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the police,” COP Donkor said.
Among the suspects in custody are Akwasi Agyei alias Cobra, Ibrahim Alhassan, Samuel Appiah alias Akwesi Mugu, Francis Acquah alias Preman, David Obobi alias Wasti, Martin Akansina alias One Billion, Nana Yaw Frimpong alias Mystical, Kojo Atingawu alias Borga, Samuel Akwesi Gyan, and Steven Sey. Two members identified as Kwaku Peprah alias X5 and one Busin were killed during operations, while Kwabna Owusu Ansah and one Albert remain on the run.

4. Ahafo Kukuom Rural Community Bank (May 30, 2025)
4. Nwabiagya Rural Bank, Ofinso (July 10, 2025)
5. Bosomtwe Rural Bank, Suntreso (July 18, 2025)
6. Kakum Rural Bank, Elmina (August 4, 2025)
7. MRB Bank, Winneba (August 15, 2025)
8. South Brim Rural Bank, Achim Asine (August 16, 2025)
9. Ecobank, Ahafo Kenyasi Branch (September 8, 2025)
10. Saint Martin de Porres Credit Union, Atosu Monaco (September 14, 2025)
During the police operation, a cache of weapons and other items were seized, including 14 assorted firearms (AK-47 rifles, pump-action shotguns, pistols, and a single-barrel gun), quantities of ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones.
COP Donkor commended the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and his intelligence unit for their key role in tracking down the syndicate.
She also lauded the cooperation of the public, which she said was crucial to the success of the operation.
She empahsized the Ghana Police Service will continue to root out criminal elements from society to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
