Over twenty  students of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI)  have been hospitalized after a standoff with some police officers Tuesday night with scores detained.
The officers were  called in to ward off  jubilant students who were said to have blocked portions of the Amakom-WAEC road.
The students were returning from the Baba Yara sports stadium after success in the Inter schools competition in the region.
The police officers fired gunshots and tear gas when the students resisted and pelted stones at them as they tried to unblock the road.
The angry officers reportedly stormed the school’s dormitories  vandalizing windows and doors, and manhandled any student who came their way.

Some injured student

Some of the injured students  who narrated their ordeal to Starr News said the action of the Police were uncalled for .
“We were in our dormitories when the Police started beating us as though we were armed robbers, some of us had to run for our dear lives, I had to jump from a storey  building because the brutalities were so much and I became unconscious afterwards”.
The injured students are being treated at the Anwiam hospital at Afful Nkwanta. The principal of the school, Joseph Abeiku Apre, has condemned the actions of the police.

“What happened was a disgrace, it should not be so in this civilized world that we live in. If students had done something bad or unlawful, that is not how you handle them to the extent that you follow them to their dormitories to assault them”.
