Head coach of AshantiGold SC, Bashir Hayford has played down the toughness of their upcoming Ghana Premier League clash with Asante Kotoko, claiming he fears no team in the league.
The Porcupine Warriors have been earmarked as one of the favourites to annex this season’s Ghana Premier League title after their strong start to the campaign where they have accumulated seven points from their opening three games.
AshantiGold, meanwhile, have collected four points from the same number of matches in the league but as the two clubs prepare to go into battle in the ‘Ashanti Derby’ at the Len-Clay Stadium on Sunday, many bookmakers have touted Asante Kotoko as favourites to triumph on the day.
Nevertheless, Bashir Hayford, who once coached the Porcupine Warriors believes otherwise, and says his record against his former side indicates that he has nothing to fear in the match.
“I’ve never been afraid to face Asante Kotoko in my career, no way. Even when I left the club, I went to Kessben FC, and I believe everybody is aware of what I did to them. Afterwards I led Medeama to the Baba Yara stadium, what happened?
“I even led Power FC when nobody gave me a chance to the Baba Yara, I triumphed, so playing against Kotoko on any day, with any club doesn’t shivers through my spine.”
“I’m delighted to have once coached them in my career, but I’m never afraid of them a bit. It will be a great spectacle of football match so I’ll urge the fans to troop to the Len Clay stadium in their numbers.”
