2019 PGA Championship tees off on Dec 4

The 6th Gold Fields/Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Golf tournament tees off from 4-7 December, 2019 at the Damange Golf Course with 14 international golfers expected to participate in the three- day event.

In attendance will be the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II and the Chief Executive Officer of Gold Fields, Nick Holland.

This year’s tournament has seen an increase in the prize money with about GH₵140,000 to be shared among the winners in the various categories.

The winning prize for seniors is GH₵9000.

The winning cash prize for pros is GH 40,000 which is GH 5,000 more than the 2018 cash prize. 64 Ghanaians pro will also be competing in the tournament

Speaking at the launch of the tournament, Head of West Africa Region, Goldfields Ghana, Alfred Baku said, “We have seen over the last five years that the standard of the game goes up and is our motivation to bring more people into the game.

“We are achieving our targets and there is still more room for improvement. We are hoping the standard goes higher than last year and in terms of discipline we expect our professionals to be disciplined”, he added.

President for the Professional Golfers’ Association Tony Mintah said, “This year’s tournament will be a big one considering the prize money and the interest from other international golfers.

“We will be happy a Ghanaian golfer will win this tournament. I hope Kodjo Barni can defend his title for the third time”.

He expressed his appreciation to Goldfields Ghana for sponsoring the PGA Tournament for the past five years.

The international golfers to participate in the tournament are from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Zimbabwe, Senegal and Gabon.
