2021 AFCON Qualifier: Dominant Stars pick first win against South Africa

The Black Stars of Ghana picked their first win in the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after defeating Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday.

The Stars exhibited an impressive performance as they dominated the game in both halves to record the win.

Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah named two debutants in his starting line up with Baba Iddrisu and Gideon Mensah named in the Black Stars starting 11.

The game started with both sides playing cautiously not to concede.

Thomas Partey scored the first goal in the 35th minute after hitting a shot from 25 yards which deflected into the net.

The South Africans made an attempt to equalize but Percy Tawo strike was saved by Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

Nordsjaelland midfielder Kudus Mohammed scored on his debut as he climbed off the bench to score Ghana’s second goal.

The Black Stars will travel to play São Tomé in the second game on Monday.
