The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Athletics (GA), Bawa Fuseini, has confirmed the unfortunate news that Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku will miss the highly anticipated 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest due to a groin injury.

According to Bawa Fuseini, Azamati’s absence has necessitated a reshuffle in Team Ghana’s relay team as they prepare for the prestigious global event.

The injury suffered by Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku has put the Ghanaian athletics community on edge as they prepare for the 2023 World Championships. However, Bawa Fuseini, in an interview on HappySports, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to adapt to the situation. He explained, “According to the coaches, the injury suffered by Benjamin Azamati means there would have to be a reshuffle in Team Ghana’s relay team ahead of the competition.”

In light of Azamati’s absence, Bawa Fuseini revealed the new lineup for Ghana’s 4×100 relay track event. The race will kick off with James Dadzie taking the lead, followed by Issac Botsio for the back straight. The second curve will be handled by Edwin Gadayi, and finally, Joe Paul will complete the relay team. Fuseini acknowledged that there might be further adjustments as the team progresses and begins their training camp.

Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku is one of Africa’s rising athletics stars in the 100m category. His absence from the 2023 World Athletics Championships is undoubtedly a setback for Ghana’s hopes at the prestigious event. Nevertheless, the Ghana Athletics Association remains determined to put forth a strong and competitive relay team, aiming to make their mark on the global stage.

Ghana’s 4x100m men’s relay team was disqualified despite finishing third at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The race was started by Sean Safo-Antwi, who handed the baton over to Benjamin Azamati, who was expected to demonstrate his speed and prowess. After an unfortunate disqualification, the team is eager to redeem themselves at the upcoming World Championships.

As the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest draws nearer, the Ghanaian relay team is gearing up for intense training and preparation. The entire nation stands behind the athletes, hoping for a stellar performance and a triumphant display of talent and determination on the global stage.

The spotlight now falls on James Dadzie, Issac Botsio, Edwin Gadayi, and Jospeh Paul Amoah, who will need to step up to fill the void left by Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku’s absence.
