Accra City Hotel hosts Kanda Bongo Man for African Legends Night

Accra City Hotel, one of the city’s luxury hotels, will host Congolese music star Kanda Bongo Man as he prepares for the much-anticipated African Legends Night slated for September 30, at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.
The organisers of the event – Global Media Alliance (GMA) chose the four-star hotel, a member of the CDH Group, because of its world- class service and trendy facilities available for such a guest of international repute.
According to the hotel’s management, its facility has enjoyed a huge facelift to host such celebrated icons. Last year, the hotel hosted South Africa’s Yvonne Chaka Chaka when she headlined the event.
“We are resolved to create a whole new world-class experience for our guests. We’re prepared in terms of service and facilities in order to step ahead of the competition; we’re fully prepared to give this celebrated African icon and his entourage, an unforgettable treat,” said Roman Krabel, the General Manager of Accra City Hotel.
The management of GMA commended CDH Financial Holdings for letting Accra City Hotel sponsor the event.
Born January 1, 1955, Kanda Bongo Man’s music career took off in full flight after moving to Paris in 1979 where his music started to incorporate elements of then-vibrant zouk music. His first solo albums, “Iyole” in 1981 and “Djessy” in 1982, were instant hits.
The Congolese singer, known for the structural changes, is widely credited for revolutionizing soukous music by encouraging guitar solos after every verse and even sometimes at the beginning of the song. His form of soukous gave birth to the popular “Kwassa Kwassa” dance rhythm where hips move back and forth while the hands move to follow the hips.
Kanda Bongo Man is expected to mount the stage of African Legends Night alongside other Ghanaian music legends – Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede to thrill audience to some of his popular songs from his celebrated albums of Kwassa Kwassa, Amour Fou among others.
Last year, the show witnessed great performances from Yvonne Chaka Chaka who collaborated with her ‘daughters’ Becca, Wiyaala and eShun on stage and was spiced up by the robotic Akosua Agyapong, the Kpanlogo man Amandzeba Nat Brew and the smooth taker Nana Tuffuor.
