GHALCA Divided Over Pre-season Tournament

Members of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) failed to come to a consensus as to the pre-season competition that should be organized when they met Thursday.

Members were yet to take a firm decision over whether to settle on the Top 4 competition or it should be expanded to either G6, G8 or G9.
This is not the first time the competition has been expanded. Last season, the absence of giants Hearts of Oak within the top four bracket necessitated the expansion of the tournament to G6.
It is believed that this time around the absence of Asante Kotoko within the top four group could force GHALCA to expand the competition to accommodate the Porcupine Warriors who finished fifth in the just-ended season.
Officials of the association are expected to vote on the decision next Wednesday to finalise on which of the competitions to settle on.
But it is expected that most of the members would vote for the expansion, considering the clout of Kotoko and how their presence in the competition will pull a big crowd and also make the tournament more competitive.
Wa All Stars, Aduana Stars, Hearts and Medeama are the first four teams and automatically qualified to play in the Top 4.
Kotoko, who finished fifth, as well as Bechem United and WAFA who followed in that order, might not be part of the competition if GHALCA votes in favour of Top 4.
