The Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed an assault incident involving a security officer on duty at the facility’s Labour Ward.
In a statement released and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Juliana Haruna on Friday, February 20, the incident occurred on February 18, 2026, at about 7:28 p.m.
An 18-year-old male, identified as Gabriel Dimson, allegedly assaulted the security officer after being directed to move to the reception area.
The suspect had accompanied his mother and a friend to the hospital but was informed by the officer that it was unauthorized for visitors to stand at the entrance of the ward outside approved visiting hours.
Management said the suspect refused to comply with the directive and reportedly pushed the officer to the ground before physically assaulting him.
The officer fell unconscious and was immediately attended to by doctors on duty. He remains on admission and is responding to treatment.
The incident was subsequently reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command.
The suspect has since been arrested, and police are assisting with investigations and possible prosecution.
Hospital management condemned the act, stating that it will not condone any form of violence against staff.
“Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers,” the statement said.
Management further urged the public to cooperate with hospital staff and adhere to established guidelines, including visiting protocols, to ensure a safe and orderly healthcare environment.
