The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Hassan Tampuli has announced that as part of the measures rolled out to ensure sanity in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution sector of the economy twenty seven LPG filling stations risk closure.
Even though the CEO failed to mention the names of the non-performing LPG stations he added that the authority is keen on closing them down to ensure safety in the sector.
According to him, the NPA has so far closed down fifty LPG stations for non-performance across the country even before the Atomic junction disaster.
He said the NPA is waiting for the level of stocks of the 27 LPG stations to dwindle to have them closed down.
The CEO of NPA made this revelation when he interacted with some selected journalists and editors in their office in Accra.
He noted that so far four hundred and seven-nine LPG stations have been monitored out of the existing six hundred LPG stations across the country.
The NPA has the mandate to do technical and commercial regulations in the petroleum downstream sector of the economy he said.
He noted that there are one hundred twenty Oil Marketing Companies, thirty six Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) and over three thousand retails outlets registered with the authority in the country.
We as an authority deal with issues of quality assurance and the safety protocols in the petroleum downstream sector of the economy.
He was quick to add that the authority regulates the activities of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST) and Ghana Gas Company limited.
He announced that in the next couple of months the authority will construct a one thousand parking space at the TOR for tankers drivers at the Tema enclave to ensure smooth loading in the area.
He added that NPA will also fix all the roads that lead to the TOR area to ensure the safety of drivers as well as the workers of the company.
According to him, similar development will be done at Buipe storage plant in the Northern region all in the name of making the petroleum products gets to the consumer in upper part of the country in no time and ensure stable price regime in the country.
He appealed to the general public to make use of the NPA’s complaints centre to report issues of quality petroleum products.
