The 2025 edition of the prestigious Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC) is officially underway at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), as sixty outstanding Junior High School students from across the Ashanti Region begin their quest for academic glory.
Representing 43 Metro, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the region, the contestants earned their spots in this year’s competition after emerging champions at the community level earlier this year.
The knockout stage, which began this morning, will run until September 10, featuring intense rounds of spelling, comprehension, current affairs, and public speaking, all designed to showcase the academic depth and confidence of the participants.
Organised by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation, the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge remains one of the most impactful education focused initiatives in Ghana, aimed at nurturing literacy, critical thinking, and leadership skills among the youth.
Parents, teachers, and dignitaries gathered at the KNUST Great Hall to cheer on the competitors, whose determination and poise were on full display in the opening rounds.
