Great Olympics midfielder Galdson Awako has come to the defence of former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu after his sacking.

According to the former Ghana U-20 World Cup winner it was too early for the club to part ways with the coach following last Thursday’s defeat to Great Olympics in that outstanding Ghana Premier League.

Olympics won the game by a lone goal which was followed by Maxwell Konadu’s sacking.

Maxwell Konadu was sacked on Friday in a statement announced by the club: “Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with Coach Maxwell Konadu as its Head Coach with immediate effect. Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in the interim”.

The decision by the club to part ways with the coach was received with mixed feelings on the part of some fans of the club and the media as it was the first defeat of the season.

Gladson Awako who starred in the game against Asante Kotoko and was adjudged Man of the Match said it was too early for the Porcupine Warriors to make that call.

Speaking in an interview on Wamputu Sports with Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Happy 98.9FM, Gladson Awako said, “I was not happy when i heard that Coach Maxwell Konadu has been sacked this morning. He needed time at the club because of the players that were given to him. He was doing badly”.

“I am not part of the Kotoko team but I think it’s too early for Asante Kotoko to part ways with Maxwell Konadu”, he added.

Maxwell Konadu since his appointment in 2019 and has played 29 games as Kotoko manager, won 9, drew 7, and lost 5, scoring 29 goals in the process.Victor Smith has been appointed as the interim coach and will lead the technical bench in their game against Dreams FC on Sunday.
