President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has envisaged that basic education in Ghana will soon be at the secondary level considering the introduction of the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes by the Government.

In his last State of the Nation Address for his first term of office, he said: “Four years ago, it sounded recklessly optimistic but free SHS and free TVET are now entrenched parts of our educational sector. In a few years’ time, we can guarantee that the basic education for the workforce of our country will be at the secondary level”.

It is a transformational step we have taken. We should quicken the pace of development all round to give us confidence in our future”.

The Free Senior High School Programme is a policy of the government of Ghana, that begun in September 2017 to ensure that every child in Ghana who qualifies for, and is placed in a public Senior High School for his secondary education will have his or her fees absorbed by the government.
