Hematologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Eugene Tettey, has hinted that men are in the best position to examine a woman’s breast for breast cancer.

He observed that men mostly fondle the women’s breasts and as such they can determine if there are any changes in the breast.

He made this known during an interview with Sefah-Danquah on the Happy Morning Show aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy98.9FM.

“Most men play with the women’s breast and because of that they will know when something is off about the women’s breast. In one case, the man was able to detect that his woman’s breast had become hard but the woman ignored. It was after they visited the hospital that they were able to confirm,” he said.

He encouraged men to provide support for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. “Sometimes, women with breast cancer get depressed and that is where the men need to give their support to the women.

Sometimes, when some women get breast cancer, their husbands end up going for other women. All these things become a problem and it depresses them more. They need support. This should not be the responsibility of the men only. The whole family should support,” he added.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is marked in countries across the world, and helps to increase attention and support for awareness, early diagnosis, and treatment as well as palliative care for women facing this disease.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world and the most common cancer in women worldwide, accounting for 25% of all incident cases of female cancers.
