Burkina Faso Coup not likely to happen in Ghana – Al Wahab Farouk

International Diplomatic Consultant, Al Wahab Farouk has urged Ghanaians to rest easy as the nation will not suffer a spillover of neighboring Burkina Faso’s coup d’état.

The army’s removal and detention of Burkina Faso President Roch Kabore after two days of unrest have sparked some celebration among anti-government protesters, and international concern after what was the fourth military coup in West and Central Africa in the past year.

Late on Monday, a group of soldiers calling themselves the Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration, led by Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba appeared on state television to declare that they were in control of the county. The government and national assembly were dissolved and the constitution suspended, they said, as they also announced an overnight curfew.

The coup comes amid an increasingly bloody Islamist insurgency that has killed thousands and displaced millions across the Sahel region.

“When it comes to a certain approach Ghanaians are really good. We are very corrupt as a people but when you set that aside, I don’t think any terrorists can use the country as their operating base. The most guaranteed place for the excesses of the Burkina Faso coup to reach is the Northern part of the country, but there are too many minority groups in that area for them to operate from,” he shared.

Describing most of the these minority groups as scattered, he assured that no spillover from the Burkina Faso coup will see Ghana suffering from terrorist groups as they can never be formed in the nation.

He explained the largest tribal settings in the Northern part of Ghana are no way related to Burkinabés “and they won’t even dare invade the areas of Wala’s, Frafra’s and Dagati’s. Any smaller tribe which decided to harbor them will only make it easier for their identification and they will be pushed back to their country. Ghana has no rebel groups for the Burkinabés to say they will get assistance when they cross the border.”

In an interview with Happy98.9FM’s Don Kwabena Prah on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show, he preached calm to the Ghanaian people and advised so called security experts against spreading fear of a possible spillover of the Burkina Faso coup in Ghana.
