Communication Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ishmael Kwasi Adams, has touted the Ghana Police Service as the best institution to safeguard the security and lives of Ghanaians.

He assured conveners of the #FixTheCountry they have no reason to embark on their June 4 demonstration with their armed private security as the Police Service can do that.

In a letter addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Command, conveners of the #FixTheCountry movement said; We will be holding a three-day demonstration starting on 4th June 2022 from 6am in the Morning.

The Day June 4th marks a significant turning point in our political history where the Military government was overthrown to prepare the country for the return to democratic governance in 3 Months.

It is a date significant for emphasizing the values of ethical political leadership and for demanding probity and accountability at a time when such values had dimmed in Ghanaian political life.

In the letter, they also indicated; we will bring our own security company to provide protection to demonstrators. All weapons held by demonstrators or by the contracted security personal will be for personal protection only; and all weapons will be duly permitted in accordance with the Arms and Ammunitions Act, 1972 (NRCD 9).

In a panel discussion with Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show, Ishmael indicated the government of the day appreciates demonstrations as it points out loopholes in the system.

“These demonstrations tell gov’t to sit up and we don’t mind them embarking on these protests but we want them to do it in a right manner, devoid of violence and use of weapons. Although they are bad nuts in every institution, we can still believe in police protection,” he added.

The incessant demonstrations and violence in Ghana has raised concerns for the government, as they fear the bad image being painted to the international community. Ishmael, who is worried about these incidents added, “We need to fix these and make them work. You can embark on a protest alright but do it with sanity.”
