It is unfair for Ghanaian boxers to refuse to pay incentives to the GBA – Board Member

The Executive Board member of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Alhaji Tofiq, says the refusal of Ghanaian boxers to pay incentives to the authority is unfair.

Boxers are supposed to pay a token from their purses to the GBA which will be used for development of the sport as well as running of the Association.

The 2% incentives deducted from purses of boxers are used to support activities of the Authority and are also saved to help the boxers when they need help or any form of assistance in their old age.

Speaking to Joe Debrah on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports in an interview, the Ace boxing promoter said he didn’t understand why the boxers still refused to pay the incentives after a reduction from 10% to 2% .

“All around the world, after boxers are engaged in fights, taxes are deducted straight and it’s only in this country this is not done.

“These same boxers after refusing to pay these incentives still find a way to return to the GBA when they are having problems or are unwell. Which doesn’t seem fair to me”. He said.
