Head of Communications for the Ghana Football Association(GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has debunked claims suggesting that the GFA has received $800,000 from the Finance Ministry to cover the expenses of the Black Stars friendlies played in September.

Ghana played Brazil and Nicaragua in friendlies as part of preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a post by Sports Journalist Collins Atta Poku, sourcing three Majority Members of Parliament, the GFA is alleged to have received $800,000 to cover the team’s expenditure in both games.

Giving more clarification on the alleged claim on Happy FM, the Spokesperson for the GFA, Henry Asante Twum said, “This information is false. I don’t remember the last time the FA went to the government for money to play a friendly match.

“In friendlies of this nature, it is a decision between two Federations. Sometimes the teams that call for the friendly takes up the cost.
“What I can say is the figure in itself is not correct, that is not how much we spent for the two matches,” he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware On Wamputu Sports.

He further expressed his disappointment at the manner in which such pieces of information are not fact-checked before being put out to the public.
“I’m surprised this was not fact-checked from the ministry before being put out.

“All the details of our matches from our match against Ivory Coast at Cape Coast, the Kirin tournament, all the contracts are with the Ministry of Youth and Sports so if anyone should request a copy, it would be made available by the Ministry” He added.

The GFA have also released a statement in denial of the reports as untrue.
