Member of Parliament for Wa West constituency, Peter Lanchene Toobu has indicated that it is unusual for service personnel to leave a weapon in a commercial vehicle.

His comments come on the back of the Ghana Police Service interdicting one of its officers, Inspector Sulemana Adam, for negligently leaving a service rifle in a commercial vehicle.

According to him, interdiction is a measure in the right direction, hence such a person should be given medical attention, not discipline.

“It is very strange for a police inspector who has booked a riffle in hand and for no tangible reason leaves it in trotro and walk freely,” he said.

Reacting to his interdiction, the Member of Parliament feels,” his interdiction is right but I would plead with the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Dampare, such a person might not need discipline but a psychiatrist.”

“How can you sit in trotro for whatever reason and leave a brand new caesar in the car and be walking home freely handed” he quizzed.

“So the first point is, his psychological status should be checked if he is stable minded if not he should be taken care of by a psychiatrist than he being disciplined or suspended” he added.

“The only time you can be separated from the weapon is when you have been murdered by someone, if not so it should always be with you because within the next 12 to 15 minutes someone might possess it, kill you and others that’s why in the service the least thing about a weapon you would be interdicted,” he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted one of its officers, Inspector Sulemana Adam, for negligently leaving a service rifle in a commercial vehicle.

This was announced in a statement dated Saturday, January 28, 2023, and signed by Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Western Regional Police Command.

The rifle according to the police was returned by the driver of the said vehicle “who also alleged that the inspector had extorted money from him”.

Both the inspector and the driver are said to be assisting with the investigation.
