Operations officer at the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, Elliot Mensah has disclosed that the provision of premix fuel for fisher folks has resumed.

According to him, the unavailability of the fuel was as a result of government owing suppliers hence they found it very difficult to fulfill their obligations, “but thanks be to God government has been able to clear all debt and we have resumed the supply of premix fuel from last week.”

Speaking in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, Mr.Anane Antwi revealed that the increase in fuel prices does not affect that of premix fuel,”some where last year, a gallon of premix was sold at 7.20 pesewas before the increment of fuel prices and the dollar.”

He indicated that the fishermen were purchasing the premix at a subsidize price but due to the inconsistencies in the economy,”the government is finding it difficult to put up with that huge subsidy.”

Touching on the sustainability of the frequent provision of the commodity, the operations officer disclosed that, “the sustainability depends on the government , and looking at the level of difficulty the state is going through now, it has become difficult for the government to pay., but it doesn’t want to use that as an excuse why fisher folks can’t engage in fishing activities due to the inability of the state to make the premix fuel available at the various landing beaches”

“Therefore government is doing everything possible in its power to see to the supply of premix fuel in the country” he added.

“As we speak now the prices of premix fuel still stands at GHS7. 20p per gallon for over ten years now. Last week the reviewed prices was a
GHS 25.35p and that would help government continue with the subsidy.”

In recent weeks, Ghana has seen a significant increase in the price of premix fuel, with the cost per gallon rising from GH₵10 to GH₵25. This steep increase has had a major impact on the fishing and industrial sectors, which rely heavily on premix fuel to power their operations.
